  take a close look at paragraph 4. am i the only one who can see the old pattern of the 1980's re-emerging?

  i had thought that the watchtower had begun to take a more reasonable approach to the secular education of it's members children yet here they are again in 2004 willing to jeopardise the education these young people receive for the sake of indoctrination and control.. .

  Dubs, you don't have to be thick but it helps......... us to keep you within the fold

  I can remember way back when (probably some time in the mid 80's) when there was an article which actually warned against getting a decent education as it would lead to pride in ones self and less reliance on Jehovah. They pointed out that the bulk of the congregation weren't the educated phylosophers but were 'common folk' who were meek and teachable.

  Now I find this bloody offensive (isn't there a scripture that says something along the lines of using your gifts to god's praise?) where they are basically saying that it's ok to be thick because only then will you not question the garbage food that the WTBTS provides.

  Why oh why oh why do those within the congregation not see this and destroy them from within?

  I'm glad you are out. It hurts for a little while until you learn to readjust your life to the world of potential out there. You are 17, enjoy what you have and be glad that you did not waste any more years on that dead unloving religion.

  Go wild, get laid and do whatever you feel will make you happy, your future is an open freeway spread out in front of you just waiting for you to take the first steps on the journey to the rest of your life. The journey is an adventure and should be enjoyed to the full, ignore the destination and enjoy the journey, enjoy the here and now.

  Well being Cornish I'm obviously related to god so I wouldn't want to give up my celtic heritage.

  If I was starting fresh I would want to be somewhere hot with a chilled out atmosphere, probably Australia, so long as there were some of those tall blonde Scandinavian girls around

  The discontent at another's harm

  the wtbts makes claim that "apostates" are not willing to just leave the org without voicing their opinions to others, and be good little ex-jws, just as the org (again) would like them to be - putting it down to "evil intent" or "controlled by satan".

  one thing that they continually not mention in the same context is their own mandatory requirement to get more of the same "followers" - to act, live, be where and when they want them to be, treat their children and other family how they prescribe, including bogus medical advice, etc.

  - a complete imposition into their lives - financial and all - all based upon a ruse - pretence and lies, even whether or not they believe it themselves.

  Whats a Real family Really like and how does one get there?

  they say patience is a good thing, but what happens when your patience starts to run out?.

  what's it like having a real real family, a family where different members look out for one another and offer support when the going gets tough?.

  i feel somewhat ashamed of myself for posting this question.

  there is no such thing as a typical family, every family has it's skeletons and I am yet to find a family anywhere which did not have it's share of dysfunctionality, and as Abaddon rightly points out it can make you very withdrawn and aloof when escaping the borg.

  I lost all of my family and friends when i left, and was all alone at 18. I hadn't made many friends at school as I was picked on for being a JW and when I left the JW's I was truly cast adrift. It affected me in a similar way to Abaddon and I became very self sufficient, it's only over the last 5 years or so I have managed to make any real friends apart from my partner as I find it very difficult to rely on other people. The JW experience, especially in an abusive home can be very negative and have a great deal of psychological effect.

  i have been reading the previous posts today and have noticed some pretty heated depates on politcs with, rightfully so, locked threads.. all of us on this board come from many different countries with different forms of goverments and benifits.

  everybody thinks that they have the best and are willing to defend that view.

  i would hate to see any of us lose "friendships" on this forum over debates that have no winners.. i enjoy posts from everybody that is involved in these discussions and would hate to loose the insights they provide on every other issue besides politics.

  actually it was guesst 77 who put that question, but I disagree with you anyway.

  Do you remember the guy with the shopping bags in Tianamen square Beijing China? One person can make all the difference. The monks in Southern Vietnam who set fire to themselves to protest the US invasion moved public opinion, the photographer who got the picture of the Southern vietnamese policeman shooting a protestor in the head, Lek Valedsa in Poland who started a democratic movement. All these are people who have changed history and stood for what they believe in. One person can change the world, all you need is the courage to stand for your convictions when your moment comes.
